To visualize this quote’s meaning, let’s look at today’s stock price of Example Company Inc: Today Example Company Inc. lists at 101R/share on the JSE. For itself, this data point is pretty meaningless.

However, generally, datapoints become more useful when we collect and structure them. Lets, therefore, discover historical monthly stock prices for the Example Company Inc. This data we now structure so that we can easily interpret it.

Out of our structured individual stock prices, we now retrieve information on how Example Company Inc. developed over the last year.

However, ultimately inorder to generate knowledge out of our newly generated information, we need to further analyze the context in which Example Company Inc. 

For example, if we know that the South African stock market grew by just 1% over the last year, we can conclude that Example Company Inc. did exceptionally well.
