About me
My name is Carsten, and I am a researcher who is continuously looking forward to being able to apply and expand his knowledge. I work as a consultant for Data Interfaces, Statistics, and Regulatory Reporting with the Austrian Association of Investment Fund Management Companies (VÖIG).
Prior to working with VÖIG, I broadened my horizons with several EU- funded volunteer projects in Finland, Greece, and Armenia, as well as in the course of an internship at the Austrian Foreign Trade Center in Jordan.
I finished my Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics and Social Sciences from the Vienna University of Economics and Business, which has been generally very favorable. My Bachelor’s thesis was dedicated to foreign direct investment (FDI) and its determinants for the Angolese economy. A particular focus was placed upon the role of the petroleum industry.
In the course of my Master’s thesis at the University of Portsmouth (UK), I analyzed the behaviour of ESG-themed Emerging Market (EM) investment fund flows in relation to conventional EM investment fund flows. By creating an Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average model, using the Python statsmodel library, my results suggest that (un)expected ESG EM flows tend to be less strongly influenced by return changes as compared to their conventional peers. By taking a closer look at the resilience of ESG EM fund flows during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, I find further evidence for an outflow differential between ESG EM funds and conventional EM funds in H1 2020. Interestingly this differential holds regardless of the performance quartile of the fund.
Next to my academic activities, I completed the Certified Portfolio Manager (CPM) Program in Austria. This program sharpened my knowledge of risk management and portfolio construction.
